Terri Sanchez, FluteTerri Sanchez

Terri Sanchez recently won 2nd prize in the National Flute Association Young Artist Competition, along with the prize awarded for “Best Performance of a Newly Commissioned Work,” Gargoyles, by Lisa Bielawa. Also in 2009, she performed in Chicago as a finalist in the Walfrid Kujala International Piccolo Competition and in Dallas, with the Meadows Symphony Orchestra, as the winner of the Southern Methodist University Concerto Competition. In the past, she was the 1st prize winner of the NFA Orchestral Excerpt Competition and a finalist in the Myrna W. Brown Artist Competition.

Ms. Sanchez is currently a second year Masters student at SMU, studying with Dallas Symphony flutist, Kara Kirkendoll Welch. She received her BM in Flute Performance from the University of Colorado at Boulder where she studied with Koch label recording artist, Alexa Still. Her other principal teachers include Jean Larson, Helen Blackburn and Leticia Ledesma. Ms. Sanchez is especially grateful for the wisdom and guidance she receives from her mentors, Claire Johnson and her husband, Gabriel Sanchez.
